Official language is Turkish
but locals speak English as well.
Official currency is Turkish Lira, but US dollars, Euro and British Pounds can be either easily exchanged in exchange offices or be used in the markets, stores or cafes. Visa and MasterCard can be used both for payments and getting cash from ATMs.
Time is the same as in Istanbul, GMT + 2 Hours.
Cyprus enjoys an intense Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers from mid–May to mid–October, and mild winters from December to February, which are separated by short autumn and spring seasons.
Summer is a season of high temperatures with cloudless skies, but the sea breeze creates a pleasant atmosphere in the coastal areas.
The island enjoys abundant sunshine, and even in December and January, there is an average of six hours of bright sunshine per day, whilst over the six ‘summer’ months, there is an average of 11.5 hours of bright sunshine per day.
In July and August the average maximum temperature is about 36 C. In January an average minimum temperature is 5 C.
The temperature in the sea hovers above 23° C from June to November, climbing to 28° C in August. Even during the three coolest months of January to March, average sea temperature is an acceptable 16° or 17° C.
There are two ways to come to North Cyprus: either from Larnaca airport in South or from Istanbul. Visa is not needed to visit North Cyprus but you will need visa to come to Larnaca airport in South Cyprus.
